Surfing Newport Beach

Newport Beach is one of the most famous Surf cities in the world. The beach culture is incredible.
A lot of people think of Newport as a bunch of surfers and models…and although this is true, it’s so much more than that.
Danielle and I use to live on 38th street near the pier before we started RVing. Words can’t describe how awesome this place is, in fact I don’t think anything other than being here in person can. Recently we were RVing in Southern California and made a visit to our old stomping grounds to go Surfing and hang out with friends. Before I share our RV adventure below I wanted to share a few pictures from when we lived here to give you a taste of what it’s like to live here.
I went surfing often and we could hear massive waves pounding on the shore as we closed our eyes at night.
It was incredible, we would bike on the boardwalk almost daily.
It was the perfect place to throw the football around, play some cornhole, or just hang out with friends.
If you had a rough day or just wanted to mentally get away, you could take a long walk on the beach.
If day cruises are your thing you can take a whale watching or dolphin watching cruise.
Anybody want to go sailing?
Sometimes silence is the best cure for the soul. I would often see people sitting out on the Jetty, thinking about life.
This is where The Traveling Pomeranian learned how to Surf. She picked it up right away.
Another major perk is we were just over a mile away from The Wedge, which is world famous for getting up to 40 ft waves. Some of the best surfers, body boarders, and skim boarders would come here to hang out and hit the waves. I’ve been lucky enough to be in the water with some of the best water athletes in the world and watched them do things that don’t even seem human. The power of the ocean is shown on this massive shore break, and I’ve been tossed, thrown and pounded by these heavy sets.
Newport is a great place to let your kids play in the sand.
Sometimes we would get barrels so big you could drive a smart car through them.
It’s so peaceful to sit out on a surfboard and watch the sunset over the horizon.
As you can imagine, with how great this place is I was drawn here while we took an RV trip to the Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in Menifee. So I met up with some buddies at sunrise and we enjoyed a fun filled morning at the Beach.
This was the spot we posted up at while hitting the waves.
After surfing for a few hours we realized there was a major surfing competition just a few blocks down the beach.
One of the competitors doing some stretches before the competition.
Turns out it was the high school Nationals. These kids had some great moves and seemed to land everything.
