We were looking for the Ultimate RV Trip to Orange County. Since we lived in The OC for around 8 years before traveling, we knew that the Newport Dunes RV Resort was the PERFECT place to soak in some rays and catch some waves.

Location

This waterfront RV Resort sits right on the Newport Back Bay with the famous California 1 Hwy right behind it. It’s in the heart of Orange County so you can easily take some day trips to LA (40 miles) or head down to San Diego (1.5 hours). As far as close locations to visit, there are too many great cities and beaches to mention within 30 minute drives. Probably the best part about their location is being on the Newport Bay where you can access the Pacific Ocean.

The Sites

The campsites are absolutely amazing here, clean and well kept. They all have fences around them for added privacy. All of the hookups are clean and high end. You’ll find both 30 and 50 amp hookups. Many of the sites are located right on the beach of the back bay. If you need anything at all, even someone to help you park your rig, the friendly staff here has you covered.

The Scene

We were really surprised at how many families were here. It was a younger demographic than we are use to when we stay at most RV Resorts like the Thousand Trails Resorts, where it’s predominately retired folks. The people here were VERY active. Playing sports, working out, and doing activities constantly. This might be a pretentious observation but it was tough to find people who were overweight, very stereotypical of The OC. It seemed like most of the campers were business professionals who brought their families to get away for a vacation to soak in the California Sun. I’d even be bold enough to say that the average age of the adults were in their 30’s to early 40’s.

Things to Do

At the RV Resort they have a lot of amenities such as a gym, heated pool, and much more. Most notable is the gorgeous beach on the back bay which is right at the Resort.

Walking Path: At night the lights of the city of Newport are nice to see as you walk around the Back Bay path.

Back Bay Bike Trail: Catch a great sunset while peddling around for your daily exercise around the Back Bay that runs right up to the Newport Dunes.

Swimming: They’ve got a nice heated pool and hot tub. They even have water aerobics.

Boating: You have direct access to the marina from the resort to head out onto the ocean or cruise the Newport Bay.

Playground for the Kids: They’ve got a great playground for young kids to play on and stay entertained.

Nearest Attractions

Just a short drive, walk or bike ride down the PCH is the Balboa Peninsula which has one of the best Beach Paths we’ve ever seen. Miles of beautiful beaches that you can walk, jog or bike on with the Newport and Balboa Pier.

The Peninsula has everything you could want for a good time. Excellent restaurants, incredible people watching, great boating, and of course we can’t forget that it has one of the premiere Surf Cultures in the country.

Less than a mile away from the RV Resort is the high end Fashion Island outdoor mall featuring a lot of great retail stores (Danielle loves it there).
