Shore Looks Nice 
Most RVers dream of slowly cruising along the entire west coast of the United States. It’s a bucket list type of trip that will leave you in awe of the beauty and seclusion on this rugged coast.
Most Surfers dream of the cruising the west coast and hitting the waves along the way. However, it’s usually in a surfer van that is a little bit better than roughing it.
We decided to go surfing for 6 months on a Border to Border trip up the west coast, but instead of roughing it in a camper van, we would have all the modern comforts of home along with us on our trip.
The goal was to start at the Mexican Border and slowly head up the west coast until we can see Canada.
Big shifts in society pose big challenges for RV Dealerships to adapt so they stay in front of their potential customers. It’s no secret that we’re going through a MASSIVE change in our society on how people consume things. The mobile revolution is upon us.
We want to consume what we want, when we want it.
I’ve spoken to hundreds of Dealership owners, GMs and Marketing Managers and it’s overwhelming how rapid people are seeing diminishing returns on traditional advertising.
Take into account that our industry is booming right now, too many Dealerships are riding this wave of consumers wanting to buy campers and they ARE NOT positioning themselves for a downturn. History tells us that it’s inevitable that this boom will dry up for awhile and we will see a pull back. We spend each summer with Minnesota being a home base. My parents wanted to entice us to bring the grand kids around more and had RV Hookups installed on their 4 acres. It’s the perfect mix of quality family time and space when we want it.

I speak with a lot of RV Dealership owners and General Managers (GM) that tell me they haven’t taken social media marketing very serious cause they don’t understand it. They’re frustrated because they’re seeing diminishing returns on traditional marketing channels and they keep hearing about how effective Social Media is, but they don’t “get it”.
I have heard an equal amount of people that tell me they’re frustrated cause they’re already “doing” social media marketing, but aren’t getting a result. Let’s be clear, having a Facebook Page and having someone post once in awhile who doesn’t know how to convert on Facebook, won’t sell any RVs.
What’s Going On
Let’s look at some of the current trends and break down in simple terms what’s going on. First off, we need to understand that Marketing is simple (not easy, but simple):

Let’s face it, we have to stay in shape (this is where my dad would remind me jokingly that round is a shape). You only get one life and you only get one body.
The biggest challenge we’ve found with being healthy while traveling in an RV is routine. It just so happens that the biggest challenge of being healthy in a traditional sticks & bricks home is routine also.
Fact: America is fat and unhealthy.

Visiting Big Cities across the country has been one of the big highlights of RVing. Seattle is such a neat city and it was great to say “we want to visit this city” and then create a plan, then make it happen.
